600 Palestinian Orphans Set For Umrah
In mid-January 2015, Islamic Help will embark on a unique and life-changing journey by taking 600 Palestinian orphans from Jordan to perform Umrah in the Holy Lands.
The children, who are looked after as part of our global orphan sponsorship programme, will make the journey from Jordan to Makkah and Madinah Shareef in 15 coaches, accompanied by their guardians and Islamic Help staff.
The 600 have been selected over the last few months and after obtaining the necessary visas and documentation, the convoy of coaches is due to leave from the Jordanian capital of Amman on January 18th 2016.
In early 2015, a party of Palestinian orphans (pictured) went from Jordan to Makkah as part of the Umrah for Orphans programme. It was the first time they had travelled to another country.
The youngsters described a strengthening and renewal of their faith, and their excitement and awe as they entered Haram Shareef and performed Tawaf around the Ka’aba. The group also went to Medinah Shareef to pray in Masjidun Nabi, the mosque of our blessed Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
That journey was filmed for a documentary that you can watch on our website here.
The trip in January will also be documented, with feedback for donors who have sponsored the orphans’ Umrah and the youngsters’ experiences will be recorded.
