Ramadan food aid for Syria city

Hundreds of families in a war-torn region of Syria have been provided with Ramadan food aid from Islamic Help. The deliveries were made by our partner, the White Hands charity, in the city of Ar-Rastan in Homs Province.

The project involved the distribution of 650 food bags, which will benefit 3,250 people and have been designed to last them for a month.

Ar-Rastan is the third largest city in the Homs Governorate. According to 2004 census, its population was 127,806 but it is now estimated to be half that.

It is located just 16 miles from Homs, which is Syria’s third largest city and a key battleground in the bitter civil conflict that is now in its sixth year.

The aid delivery follows another arranged by Islamic Help and carried out three months ago by White Hands in the besieged Syrian town of Madaya, where residents had resorted to eating grass because of starvation.

That distribution saw food baskets delivered to some of the neediest families in Madaya and baby milk for 112 infants either suffering from or at risk of malnutrition.

The work in Syria complements Islamic Help’s existing programmes which have helped hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey over the last few years.

This has included emergency food and water, clothing, blankets, fuel and medicines as well as specialised programmes like our Birth clinic for Syrian refugee mothers and their new-borns.

You can help Syrian refugees and the people of Syria in their time of need here.
