The Rewards for Sadaqah in Islam

In Islam, there are countless teachings and acts of obedience that enable us to exercise the basic necessities of being human; selflessness, humanity, good manners, being pious, being humble and so on.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan, performing salaah, and reciting and acknowledging the words of the Holy Qur’an. Helping others, giving to charity by way of zakaah, practising self-discipline and following the teachings of our Holy Prophets. These acts are all implemented to encourage the morals of the good human being within us.

From a very early age we are taught to practise our deen through our parents and ancestors, and once we reach a baligh age, it is solely upon us to research our religion, exercise these teachings and seek to attain more knowledge to enable us to reach that goal.

Islamic Charities

There is one thing, in particular, that is highly encouraged in Islam and is referenced many times in the Holy Qur’an; the act of giving.

Generosity and helping those in less fortunate circumstances are greatly acclaimed in the Holy Qur’an and they are acts that infinitely please Allah SWT. In fact, this is why so many Islamic charities set up and endeavour to help others around the world day in, day out.

It is narrated that the act of giving something very dear to oneself, in order to help a fellow being, is greatly rewarded in Islam.

This world, as we know it, is just a stopgap in our journey to what we pray will be Heaven; it is a test of many measures – something we often fail to remember when absorbed in the day to day happenings of worldly life. We should all prepare for our Hereafter within this world, and view this as an opportunity to invest in the rewards for our Hereafter whilst we are still here; after all, who knows when our time will come?

Allah SWT’s mercy is so great it defies reality, so much so that even the smallest act of charity or sincere repentance could be our ticket to Jannah. For what we give to those in need we are rewarded with ten-fold in return by Allah SWT – be it in this world, or the Hereafter.

“The believers, both men and women, are supporters of one another. They enjoin good, prohibit evil, establish Prayer, pay Zakah and obey Allah SWT and His Messenger. Surely Allah SWT will bestow mercy upon them. Allah SWT is the All-Mighty, All-Wise…”

(The Holy Qur’an 9:71)
