Umrah for Orphans is a pioneering programme set up by Islamic Help as part of the psycho-social support we provide for orphans and vulnerable children.
Every year we take hundreds of Palestinian orphans and widows to the holy lands of Makkah and Madinah shareef on this blessed pilgrimage.
As well as meeting their material needs – food, water, shelter, healthcare – our orphans and childcare programme places emphasis on providing psycho-social support. From education and welfare to spiritual guidance, it helps a child’s psychological and emotional development as they go through some of their most precious years of life.
In January 2019, we took 350 Palestinian orphans from Jordan and 100 from Al Quds (Jerusalem) to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah shareef.
Since our pilot Umrah for Orphans project in January 2015, more than 2,200 Palestinian orphans – boys, girls and disabled orphans —and widows have been on Umrah.
The orphans – who have never left their homes for another country – carry out all the rituals of Umrah including Tawaf (circling the Ka’aba seven times), with many of them having the blessed opportunity to touch Hajr e Aswad (the black stone).
In the blessed city of Madinah, the orphans visit Masjid al Nabawi, the second holiest site in Islam after Masjid al Haram in Makkah. It is on the site of the mosque built by the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) next to his house where he settled after his Hijrah (migration) from Makkah.
For the orphans, Masjid al Nabawi radiates a strengthening of that special and exclusive bond they have with the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him), who was himself an orphan and bestowed a great status on orphans and those that look after them.
The orphans have made multiple Umrahs for their family members and their late fathers. They also constantly made duas for the donors who so kindly sponsored them for this blessed journey.
Islamic Help would like to thank all its supporters for making our Umrah for Orphans such a special programme. May Allah reward you for bringing such blessed joy into these orphans’ lives.
