Hoody For New US Ambassador
PRESS RELEASE
6 February 2014
The US Ambassador to Britain was presented with a hoody today (Thurs Feb 6) when he made his first visit to Birmingham.
Matthew Barzun and a delegation from the US Embassy in London were at the Islamic Help headquarters in Balsall Heath as part of a series of debates with young volunteers from the charity. The meetings started with US officials visiting the organisation last year and the Embassy hosting a group from the charity last December.
The sessions, held under Chatham House rules - the discussions are behind closed doors and remain confidential – included the young volunteers firing questions at the delegation about US foreign policy and international development. They have already resulted in two young volunteers visiting the USA as guests of the Embassy and further exchange programmes are planned.
Mr Barzun, who was appointed to his post last August, was presented with an Islamic Help hoody featuring its crest and logo, by the charity’s co-founder and trustee Shaykh Sultan Niaz ul Hassan as a memento of his visit.
