On January 18th, 2016, more than 650 Palestinian orphans living in Jordan embarked on the journey of their young lives as part of our Umrah for Orphans programme.
Sixteen coaches left from Amman, the Jordanian capital, for the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah to take the boys and girls on the journey of their young lives. The orphans were accompanied by Islamic Help staff from the UK plus staff and volunteers from Jordan.
In Makkah Shareef, they prepared for Umrah by putting on their ihrams (the white garments for Umrah and Hajj) and making their intentions to fulfil Umrah. The youngsters performed Umrah for themselves and for family members.
They then went to Haram Shareef and the Ka’aba to perform Tawaf and walk through Safa Marwa seven times. After a few days in Makkah shareef, it was on to the blessed city of Madinah where part of the trip included praying in the Masjidun Nabi, the mosque of our blessed Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
The 2016 programme followed the successful launch of our Umrah for Orphans programme in 2015 when we took our first party of Palestinian orphans from Jordan to Makkah and Madinah.
